Bridges II: The Law-STEM Alliance & Next Generation Innovation

Friday, October 28, 2016

Northwestern Pritzker School of Law
Arthur Rubloff Building, Room 150
375 E. Chicago Ave.
Chicago, IL 60611

This conference brings together a diverse group of academic scholars from law, engineering, business, economics, sociology, and other fields to discuss the innovation process, and the value of cross-disciplinary collaboration in advancing innovation. This conference follows up on our June, 2015 Bridges I conference, which focused on the Law-STEM Alliance as a Catalyst for Innovation.

Issues of cross-disciplinary collaboration will be explored in three panels, each focusing on a different area of technological innovation: CRISPR (a new DNA-related technology), the Internet of Things, and User Innovation Platforms. Common themes across these different technology areas will be the subject of two special keynote presentations: one by Joel Mokyr, a professor of economics and history at Northwestern University and one from Eric von Hippel, a professor of Technological Innovation at MIT Sloan School of Management. We will also hear from a panel of deans from four departments at Northwestern University – law, business, engineering, and arts and sciences. The deans will discuss the law-business-technology intersection as it pertains to educating our students and engaging in cross-disciplinary research.

Bridges II continues the tradition of innovation at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and is one in a series of programmatic initiatives – including our Master of Science in Law program – that are designed to promote intersections among the disciplines of law, business, technology, and science.

Please visit the Bridges II Conference webpage to find out more about the conference and to see a detailed program. Attendance at the conference is by advance registration; to sign up, please complete the online registration form.
